My mom wasn’t an avid cake baker, but when someone in the family got married or there was a special celebration, there was one recipe to which she always turned: her vanilla queen cakes. We ate so many queen cakes as kids that at one stage we swore never to eat them ever again, but now I love them! My recipe includes a frosting, which my mom’s didn’t. Frosted or not, they’re still great.
