This was my mom’s favorite treat growing up. While in college at the University of South Alabama, she often would drive to my great-grandmother Lil and Grandaddy Cocky’s house for lunch. More often than not, the centerpiece was my great-grandmother’s banana cream pie. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and creamy, unassuming and humble. It happens to be one of my very favorite desserts as well—I guess even taste buds are genetic.
