This is a very typical spiced wine of Alsace, made each year in the spring, no later than the end of June, when the walnuts on the trees are still green. All farmers or households with walnuts on their property would make this pleasantly bitter digestif, not unlike a fernet branca. Green walnuts are available online, typically beginning in May.
