I do not like fat chips and hate them when they are preceded with the words ‘hand-cut’. Big deal! I only want to know when they have been cut by the hands of a ring-tailed lemur; that would be interesting.

The ubiquitous chip should be no fatter then those found in vinegar-sodden newspaper, and not stacked and resembling Jenga pieces. French fries are my favourite - slender and crisp. Blobbed in mayonnaise or resting in a salty little pile next to a fat rib-eye, they are the summer
