The dough is kneaded together with grated onion, asafoetida and chillies, then griddle-roasted, which gives a delicious aroma and a nutty taste.
Put the gram flour in a mixing bowl, then add the nigella seeds, asafoetida and salt. Grate the onion, then add to the flour with the chilli and coriander.

These were really tasty and a great gluten free option. The grated onion was quite wet so I ended up using quite a bit less water than the recipe calls for. I suppose you could drain the grated onion but I found the onion juice added lots of flavor.
