  • About

The oldest method for making this type of hard taffy, which can be traced at least to the eighteenth century, was to pour it into small molds or pattypans. In Europe, almonds were most commonly used, although hazelnuts and walnuts were also popular. In America, peanuts were often substituted for more expensive imported nuts. Like bellyguts, described in Old-Fashioned Cream Candy, peanut candy was also hawked in the streets.
