In Italy this is traditionally a soup which is made for small children and people who are recovering from being sick and do not feel up to a regular meal. It is a very good soup and wonderfully comforting and revitalizing even for perfectly healthy people. Since the broth is really the principal component of this soup, if at all possible, use a homemade meat broth.
