  • 1 quart ale
  • 4 cloves
  • pinch of mixed spice
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 large apples


    Heat the ale slowly but do not boil. Add the cloves and other spices, and the sugar. Peel and slice the apples and add them to the ale. Leave in a warm place to infuse for ten minutes and strain. Serve with a piece of apple in each tankard.
