The classic fiery gunpowder masala of Southern India is made with a mixture of lentils and served as a seasoning alongside a variety of foods. This nut-based version of gunpowder masala arose out of necessity, because I don’t regularly stock my pantry with the specific lentils used, but this turns out to be a great way to use up extra bits of nuts and seeds stored in the back of your freezer.
To use, generously sprinkle the masala over savory dishes like dals, vegetables, and salads
