This is a one-pot meal for vegetarians and vegans. It goes well with tofu or tempeh or with any vegetable dish.

Heat the sauce gently in a small saucepan. Put the rice and water, with the salt and oil if used, in a larger saucepan and bring the water to the boil. When it boils, stir the rice once, then leave to simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Then spread the beans on top of the rice, sprinkled with a little salt, and pour over them one-third of the sauce.
