The volatile oil of lime flowers contains farnesol, flavonoid glycosides, saponins and condensed tannins. An infusion made from the dried flowers has been used to reduce fevers for centuries. Lime tea is also prescribed as a treatment for nervous tension, high blood pressure, insomnia and indigestion. For mild cases of hypertension lime flowers can be mixed with hawthorn, mistletoe and yarrow to make an infusion using a heaped teaspoon of the herb mixture to one cup of boiling water. Leave it to stand for ten minutes before straining it and drinking. Sip a cup of the infusion twice a day for up to six weeks. If you are taking drugs to reduce your blood pressure check with a qualified herbalist before taking any herbal treatment to make sure that it is compatible with the drugs you have been prescribed.
