How to... Cook Asparagus

METHOD
  1. Snap off the woody bottom of the asparagus spear at its natural breaking point. Peel any thick, woody stems.
  2. Lay the asparagus flat in a frying pan filled with simmering water. Cook until tender when pierced with the tip of a knife.
  3. A well-cooked spear of asparagus should be tender and bend when you pick it up with a fork; it should not droop over.
