By 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had determined that animal cloning posed no unique risks to the American food supply, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated that there were, in any case, already about 600 clones in the United States (this estimate includes cattle, goats, pigs, and sheep) (Knight, 2008). The exact number of cloned livestock animals in the United States is currently unknown, and there are no estimates of the number of clone progeny in existence and circulation.
