  • About

peacock-pheasant is the common name of handsome Asian birds of the genus Polyplectron in the pheasant family. It correctly indicates that these birds occupy a position intermediate between pheasant and peafowl. There are several species, all apparently well regarded as food although varying in quality. P. bicalcaratum, the Burmese peacock-pheasant, exists in a number of subspecies of which one has a range extending to Hainan in the S. China Sea. Birds of this species are reputedly very easy to catch.
