Peafowl

peafowl Pavo cristatus and close relations, belong to the pheasant family and are found in the Indian subcontinent and (P. muticus) eastwards to Malaysia and Indonesia. In apparent contrast to the male of the species (see peacock), these birds are considered to be fine fare when roasted, especially young specimens. Sala (1895) offers the mildly surprising advice that a roasted peafowl should be surrounded on the platter by roses or tulips.
