  • About

warehou the New Zealand name for several species of fish in the family Centrolophidae. These have moderately deep bodies and bear a general resemblance to species of the carangid family (see jack and trevally). Seriolella brama, the common warehou, has a maximum length of 75 cm (30") and is found in Australian as well as New Zealand waters. The same applies to the silver warehou, S. punctata, and the white warehou, S. caerulea, which are of comparable size but inhabit deeper waters and are known also off the southern coasts of S. America. These are good food fishes.
