  • About

This is from the Receipt Book of Mrs. Ann Blencowe, daughter of John Wallace, mathematician and cryptographer 1616—1703. She was born in 1656. In 1675 she married John Blencowe, who represented Brack-ley, Northants, in Parliament from 1690—1695, and was raised to the Bench in 1696. This receipt book has remained in the possession of her descendants; and a limited edition was published in 1925 by Guy Chapman, Adelphi, London.

These caramel oranges resemble exactly the same dainties that were recently and still are served in London at all smart dinners.
