There are two types of coconut scrapers used in Sri Lanka: the traditional oval metal spike attached to a low stool; and the more commonly used metal-bladed spindle, which looks like a citrus juicer. This is clamped to a work bench and operated with a handle. I wish I had discovered them years ago, as they are really easy to use.
