REMARKS Maximum length 120 cm, but usually smaller. Bronze on top, silver-white underneath. It is the related species Sphyraena barracuda Walbaum (found in the tropical Atlantic and twice as big) which has the reputation of attacking human beings. The barracuda is a fish of the high seas which comes into coastal areas in the early summer.
