  • About

Family Mugilidae

REMARKS Maximum length 60 cm. To be recognized by the thick lips and by having a rounder body than the preceding species. (The Turkish name means round-head mullet.)

The Venetians exercise a remarkable degree of discrimination in naming the grey mullets. Thus they apply the name cefalo bosega, or simply bosega, to thick-lipped grey mullet in their third year. The names boseghetta and boseghin are used for specimens in the second and first year respectively.
