Strainers

The Modern Cocktail

  • About
You’ll need two strainers: a cocktail (10) or Hawthorn strainer and a fine-mesh strainer (6). The cocktail strainer has a spring around its edge that helps it fit snugly into different tins and mixing glasses, and a Hawthorn has two prongs at its top end, but it works in exactly the same way. However, the holes in these strainers aren’t always large enough to strain everything you might need to, so you’ll also need a fine-mesh strainer, which will allow you to ‘double strain’ and ensure you filter the smallest particles.
