Spring Fieldcap Agrocybe praecox (Pers.) Fayod (illustrated 55% life size) Cap 3–6cm across, convex; ochraceous-cream or light tan, drying almost whitish, with darker margin. Stem 40–60×4–8mm; cream; with ring. Flesh whitish-cream, becoming brown in stem with age; smell mealy. Gills adnate; pale reddish-brown at first, darkening with age. Spores 9–10×5–5.5¼, ovate-elliptical. Spore print cigar-brown. Cap cuticle cellular. Habitat amongst grass, usually in shady places such as copses; late spring to late autumn. Uncommon. Edible.
