Octospora rutilans (Fr.) Dennis & Itzerott syn. Neottiella rutilans (Fr.) Dennis (illustrated life size) Cup 0.5–1.5cm across, saucer-shaped, short stalk at the centre almost buried in substrate; inner surface bright yellowish-orange, outer whitish, flushed orange towards margin, covered in minute, downy white hairs. Spores 22–25Γ—13–15ΒΌ, broadly elliptical, reticulate, containing 1 or 2 oil drops. Asci 300Γ—20ΒΌ. Habitat on heathland or sandy soil amongst Polytrichum mosses; autumn to winter. Uncommon. Not edible.
