REMARKS Maximum length 10 cm, market length from 7 or 8 cm. Alive, these prawns are almost colourless; after being cooked, a fine orange-red.

This is a prawn of inshore waters. It walks forward, searching for food: looking with its stalked eyes, feeling with its antennae and sweeping the bottom with its second pair of legs. If disturbed, it will shoot backwards by a rapid flexing and straightening of its abdomen. It has an extensive range, from Norway to the Mediterranean.
