  • About

A large perennial herb family known for aromatic leaves. Many varieties have a fragrance or flavor similar to fruit (e.g., lemon or pineapple) or other flavorings (e.g., chocolate). There are over 30 species of mint and 600 known varieties; the most widely available are spearmint and peppermint. Mint has a strong aroma, a sweet, slightly hot flavor, and a cool aftertaste. In small quantities, it can promote sleep, but in large quantities, it may cause insomnia. Mint can be found in most supermarkets and is available fresh, dried, or in the form of an extract. See Hyssop.
