  • About

A common sandwich spread, peanut butter is also used as an ingredient in candy. Originally intended as a protein substitute for people with poor teeth, peanut butter was invented in 1890 by a physician. Peanut butter is processed by blending peanuts into a butter and separating the oil from the butter as a byproduct. By law, any product labeled peanut butter in the United States must contain at least 90 percent peanuts, with the remaining 10 percent restricted to salt, sweeteners, and stabilizers. If labeled natural peanut butter it can not contain any ingredients other than peanuts, oil, and salt.
