Being by definition a brothy dish, ramen is always served in a deep bowl with a decent capacity so that there is plenty of space to arrange the toppings. It is also helpful to place the bowl on a plate to catch any drips, though this is not essential. Napkins, on the other hand, are… Traditionally, chopsticks are used for lifting up the noodles and toppings and bringing them to the mouth. Once the more solid elements have been eaten, the broth can then be enjoyed using a deep spoon, made from ceramic or wood, although some diners simply prefer to pick up the bowl and drink the broth. If you struggle to use chopsticks, you can of course use a fork and twist the noodles round it, spaghetti-style.
