I-tal deriving from the word ‘vital’ it describes the unprocessed, very natural and spiritually attuned style of eating that is crucial to the religious beliefs of Rastafarians. Often vegetarian or vegan, ital food never uses pork and Rastafarians abstain from alcohol. Ital food is about increasing feelings of vitality and life, but there are few set rules: for some it means avoiding salted or canned foods, while others eat some fish.
