Also known by the brand name Microplane, this kitchen tool, modeled after a tool originally designed for woodworking, is used to remove the zest quickly and cleanly from citrus fruits. The small pieces of zest that result are used to add flavor to a recipe, whereas the longer strips made by a zester are used to decorate food.
