Dordogne, river in south west france which rises on the Massif Central south west of Clermont-Ferrand, flows through the Corrèze département (whence the merchants of libourne came), flows through bergerac and related appellations, and into the gironde to form the more northerly of the two ‘seas’ referred to in the name of entre-deux-mers, with st-émilion, pomerol, fronsac, and finally bourg on its right bank.
