Pepper. I really think that, to make something good, you don’t need anything more than a good ingredient and salt and pepper.
Arugula.
Potatoes.
Olive oil.
Bread. [Silverton gave up her original choice of balsamic vinegar in order to bring bread.]
Parmesan cheese. Everything about a baked potato, olive oil, Parmesan, and arugula with salt and pepper is so satisfying that I always say I could eat this every day for the rest of my life.
Dried pasta. I love dried pasta. I love the texture, the toothiness. I love fresh ravioli, but too many times fresh pasta is gummy. It’s not always a benefit to make it fresh.
Coffee. I have to have coffee. (See Nancy Silverton’s recipe for Coffee Ice Cream.)
Red wine. I need red wine.
