Published 2017

  • About
Trentino-Alto Adige in northern Italy is known for its medieval castles, such as Castel Roncolo/Schloss Runkelstein, which dominates the city of Bolzano from its mountainous perch; Castel d’Appiano/Burg Hocheppan, which stands on precipitous crags above Missian; and Schloss Tirol, the ancestral seat of the Counts of Tyrol that gave the whole Tyrol region its name. Nowadays, you can visit the castle museum to learn all about the history of the Tyrol, from its early beginnings to its heyday during the Middle Ages.
