My conversion to the benefits of using a slow cooker happened one afternoon while I was sitting on a bus stuck in a traffic jam and a beef stew was simmering away at home. It was with a sense of relief that I realized dinner would not be ruined, regardless of how late I was getting home. I knew my slow cooker would automatically switch itself to its WARM setting at the end of the programmed cooking time.
