Seasonal Availability of Foodstuffs in Britain

  • About
We are in danger of forgetting when foodstuffs are actually in their natural season in this country, because so much is flown to us out of season from around the world. As a result, a generation is growing up under the impression that strawberries are available twelve months of the year.
Unfortunately, imported fruit and vegetables just don’t taste the same as homegrown produce. I was horrified recently to see raspberries on sale in March, flown in from Peru. They cost a fortune, and didn’t even smell of raspberry, so what they tasted of I can’t imagine.
