One day in August, 1965, five chefs assembled on Gardiners Island for a picnic. They were René Verdon, Pierre Franey, Jean Vergnes, Roger Fessaguet and Jacques Pepin. Each chef prepared specialties of his own and thirty guests enjoyed a truly elegant party picnic.
