Cherries show well with a hint of smoke, which is best achieved with a wood-burning grill or campfire. I don’t have a wood-burning grill (yet), so I use my gas one or just pop cherries very close under the oven broiler. If using a grill, I still use a frying pan over the grill grates to prevent the cherries from falling through the cracks. Aluminum foil pouches also work well to keep the cherries corralled when grilling.
