Maryke’s Snack Platter

Maryke is all about spoiling the people she loves. The giving of food is one of the ways in which she shows she cares. This platter makes me happy because it includes all the things that I like, and because I know that she assembles it especially for me. There have been many times when I’ve been watching a rugby game alone at home (more recently, Latika has shown an interest in rugby so she now joins me) and I’ll hear Maryke in the kitchen, and a while later she’ll bring in a platter filled with things she’s specially bought because she knew there was a game on TV that I wanted to watch. The sweet-sour flavours of pickles, the creaminess of the cheeses, the fattiness of the mea and the knowledge that you are loved and looked after – these are all perfect accompaniments to an exciting rugby match on TV.
