These are some of the best methods to get your jars ready to successfully store your preserves. If you can’t find a matching lid to your jar use the clear plastic preserving seals that you can get from the supermarket. Bottle your jams, curds, preserves and chutneys while jars are warm.

Microwave method: ¼ fill your jars with hot water and microwave them on high for 10 minutes.

Oven method: The more traditional and conventional method for sterilising jars involves a good wash in warm soapy water. Rinse and then let dry upside down in a cool oven (120°C) for 30 minutes or until you need to use them.
