  • About
This winery hotel offers a central location from which to take day trips to Kakheti’s most important wine areas, towns and sights. The German-owned winery, founded by rail industrialist Burkhard Schuchmann in 2008, now includes a 20-room hotel, restaurant and tasting room within the winery complex. Guests can watch modern Georgian wines being made and take cooking classes. There’s also a pool and a wine spa. The winery is open all year.

Winemaker Gogi Dakishvili is a fixture here and helped create a line of qvevri wines that bridge the gap between traditional Georgian wines and those with a more international style. The winery produces 1.5 million bottles: 30 percent are made in qvevri, making Schuchmann the largest producer of non-organic qvevri wines in Georgia. The estate owns 120 hectares (297 acres) of vineyards and also buys grapes from local growers working to their specifications. www.schuchmann-wines.com
