Joyce Molyneux (1931–2022) was a British chef and one of the first women to receive a Michelin star. Molyneux ran The Carved Angel in Dartmouth, Devon until her retirement in 1999. In 1997 she received the Observer Food Monthly Lifetime Achievement Award for her After beginning her career in catering in a factory staff canteen in Birmingham, Molyneux trained as a chef working for eight years with Douglas Sutherland at The Mulberry Tree in Stratford-upon-Avon. Subsequently she joined forces with chef and restaurateur George Perry Smith, first at his Hole in the Wall restaurant in Bath, and later as Head Chef at The Carved Angel in Dartmouth, where she received a Michelin star. The Hole in the Wall and The Carved Angel were key influences on the development of the restaurant scene as the UK in the 1960s and 70s. The dishes for which The Carved Angel remains best known include <a href="https://app.ckbk.com/recipe/carv12640c09s001r002/dartmouth-pie">Dartmouth Pie</a>, made with spiced mutton – a rediscovered traditional recipe. The Carved Angel continues to this day to offer Christmas Puddings to <a href="https://app.ckbk.com/recipe/moco09596c20s001r049/the-authors-christmas-pudding">Eliza Acton's recipe</a>.
