12 Ways With Star Anise

This star-shaped dried spice comes from a type of evergreen that is believed to be native to China. Its liquorice-like scent and enticing aroma is a key characteristic in many Asian cuisines – star anise is a component of Chinese five-spice powder. It can also be used in baking, and it works particularly well with chocolate. Try it in Thai-style Beef Soup with Star Anise, or give Peter Gordon's Chocolate and Star Anise Mousse Cake a go.
