Delia Smith is an English cook and television personality most famous for her ability to teach her viewers basic cooking skills. Mrs. Smith got her start in the culinary world through a job as a washer in a small restaurant called, The Singing Chef, and quickly rose to the position of line cook. During this time, she became fascinated with English cookbooks and cookery. Delia Smith used her passion for English cookbooks to establish a career in food writing for the magazine, “The Daily Mirror”, but her rise to celebrity came in 1973 when she starred in a hit television show, Family Fare. Her success on television continued with the 1998 series, “Delia’s How to Cook”, which commanded such a loyal following that the show supposedly led to a 10% rise in egg sales in Britain. Even with her success in front of the camera Miss Smith continued to write. Her 2008 book, How to Cheat at Cooking, was an instant best seller, and contributed to her over 21 million books sold.
