Richard Sax (1949-1995), an American chef and food writer, was the author of eight cookbooks, characterized by his distinctive down-to-earth style. He is especially known for the award-winning Classic Home Desserts (1994). He studied cooking in New York and at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, went on be chef-director of Food & Wine Magazine's test kitchen, and also wrote a monthly column for Bon Appetit and contributed food writing to numerous other periodicals including Gourmet and Harper's Bazaar.
