While I am the name sake for the Sara Lee Bakery products, and I grew up in the bakery business, I do not bake. I do cook and I enjoy everything about being in a kitchen. At one point, I was thinking about being a kitchen design space planner and I enjoy designing kitchens that work. I am a cookbook collector, lover of well-designed and practical kitchen utensils, pots and pans, and basically anything to do with food.
For many years, I was the sous chef for Abby Mandel , author of many cook books and Cuisinart consultant in the early days. Working for her I learned about presentation, taste, and current food trends. I enjoy cooking and eating at good restaurants. Today my main focus is supporting STEM education, women scientists, and programs that encourage young women to engage in STEM. People do not think of cooking being a science, but it is.
