Queen Victoria had a little of this almost every day.
Rub in butter and sugar on a board, then work in flour lightly with fingertips. Roll out about an eighth of an inch thick, cut into circles, prick with a fork and bake on a greased tray in a moderate oven for about 15 minutes. These were always pricked in the same way at Buckingham Palace, in a domino pattern with three rows of three dots.
