Jumbles are a kind of soft cookie made with sour cream or buttermilk and there are hundreds of recipes for them. The name is undoubtedly a corruption of the Italian ciambelle, which means “ring cookies,” and some American versions are actually made in that shape. They are a homey, old-fashioned cookie, even in this spiced-up version with currants and nuts in it.
