This unusual cookie is adapted from Continental Confectionery by Walter Bachmann (Maclaren and Sons, Limited, London, 1950). Bachmann, a Swiss pastry chef, lived in London and in the 1950s published many books about professional baking and cooking.

The dough is reminiscent of that used for a Linzertorte (see Viennese Linzer Squares), but this takes the idea and whirls it into a spi
