Ingredients: 1¼ c. chopped dates; 1 c. hot water; 1 c. sugar; 2 eggs; ¾ c. butter or regular margarine; 1 tsp. vanilla; ½ tsp. salt; 1 tsp. baking soda; 2 c. sifted flour; ½ c. chopped nuts; 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semisweet chocolate pieces

1¼ c. chopped dates
1 c. hot water
¾ c.

Method

Mix chopped dates and hot water; set aside to cool.
Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until fluffy.
Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with date mixture. Mix well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and ½ c. chocolate pieces. Spread batter in greased 13x9x2" baking pan.
