Dissolve gelatin in boiling water in 2 qt. saucepan. Add spoonfuls of ice cream gradually, stirring until it is melted. Chill until mixture is thickened, but do not let it set. Fold in strawberries.
Pour into pie shell and chill until firm, 25 to 35 minutes. Serve garnished with whipped cream and, if desired, a few whole or sliced berries.
