Kvass is best made with a starter – various types can be used, like sourdough, yeast, probiotic powder, ginger bug, or dairy whey. This recipe is for the classic kvass made from dry rye bread, with a sourdough starter or a bit of yeast. If you are a home baker you will have all the ingredients in your kitchen already. I don’t personally make this a lot but it is a very pleasant and refreshing drink. If you are unable to get hold of rye bread you could try it with other stale bread you have
